A wide variety of solutions for sinus infection have been put forward over the years. Some involve the use of pharmaceutical products and quite harsh drugs. In this bulletin I am only going to be concerned with either easy to obtain herbal remedies or other natural solutions.

Here’s a rundown of some natural herbal Fixes for Sinusitis Infection:

Garlic: this has natural antibiotic properties and is a natural anti– inflammatory, unfortunately it does have an unpleasant odor but it is possible to buy odorless garlic if you prefer. Garlic can also act as a really effective antioxidant.

Eucalyptus or peppermint extract: when inhaled these can be very useful in clearing your sinus cavities.

Horseradish: this is useful not just as a remedy for sinus infection but it is also beneficial in treating common colds and lung congestion. By the way, after you start using horseradish there might be a temporary increase in mucus production, but do not be concerned that this is a sign that your cold is getting worse.

Sinupret: this is a supplement which contains several herbs including cowslip and according to Maryland Medical Centre it can boost your immune system and help with clearing out the sinuses.

Apple cider vinegar: this contains potassium which assists in the reduction of mucus. A guideline is to drink 1/8 of a cup of Apple cider vinegar with 16 ounces of water for 3 to 5 days. Do not make the embarrassing mistake that I made, when I first bought a bottle of apple cider vinegar – I thought it was already diluted! My first sip of the neat vinegar nearly knocked me out!

Thyme: this herb is known as a drying herb for the whole body.

Some sinus infection remedies that do not involve taking anything

Steam inhalation: this is assists in thinning the mucus and then it can more easily be naturally expelled through the nose. For small children where there is a possible risk of being burned by the steam it may be better to use a vaporiser with cool water. To help relieve a sinusitis headache you could try adding a few drops of an essential oil such as Eucalyptus or lemon.

Nose rub: first warm-up your hands by rubbing them together. With one palm rub your nose on the tip in a circular motion, let’s say 15 to 20 times. Then do another 15 to 20 in the opposite direction.

Neti pot: this method is very popular with some people, the container should be filled with a little bit of salt and warm water. It can also strengthen at the immune function.

Hot compresses: soak a clean cloth in boiling water for several minutes and then attempt to cover your face with the hot cloth, after it has cooled down a bit of course. This will help in relieving any extreme sinus pressure you feel in the face. Another way to heat the cloth would be to put a damp cloth in the microwave for a view seconds.

I hope this piece has given you a few ideas and has shown you that there are plenty of viable alternatives to prescription medication when you are looking for Remedies for Sinus Infection.
